Huntsville, Alabama â Professional hockey will return to the Tennessee Valley this fall courtesy of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL). North Alabama investor John Cherney announced today that hockey would return to the Von Braun Center starting in October 2003. The team will play a 60 game season against Knoxville, Fayetteville, NC, Winston Salem, Birmingham, and Tupelo.
John Cherney, former owner of the Huntsville Tornado hockey team, cited overwhelming fan support for his decision to revive the Huntsville Channel Cats name.
Cherney stated his appreciation for the support of the Von Braun Center and the UAH hockey program in helping facilitate the return of pro hockey to Huntsville. Cherney is enthusiastic about bringing the old Channel Cats excitement back to the Tennessee Valley. "We'll play intense, competitive hockey and you can expect to see some familiar names on the back of Channel Cats jerseys."
Season ticket information will be available through the Von Braun Center box office or log onto www.vonbrauncenter.com and sign up for Tickets First. The league schedule will be announced in July.
