September 26, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Chesapeake Bayhawks News Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Alumni Challenge will partner with the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) for the inaugural race on November 23. The event will be held outside Washington, D.C. at National Harbor with the ultimate goal of achieving Victory Over Cancer® through partnership with the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

The Alumni Challenge will feature a 5K, 25K Team Relay, 1-mile fun run and a virtual run option. The race is centered on representing your school (college or high school) or favorite collegiate team, while raising money to support a crucial cause.

The Chesapeake Bayhawks have claimed naming rights of the post-race tailgate party. Runners and spectators will be treated to a spectacular atmosphere with fun and games, local craft beers, live music and gorgeous views of the Potomac River from National Harbor. Chesapeake Bayhawks players will appear at the party for an exclusive autograph session with participants.

"The Bayhawks are excited to be a part of this event for its flagship year," said Lisa LaPlaca, Vice President of the Bayhawks. "We are an organization built on competitiveness and giving back, and the Alumni Challenge brings together both efforts in a meaningful and fun way."

"We couldn't be happier about our partnership with the Bayhawks," says Ryan Heacock, President of Legendary Sports Group, who are the owners of the race. "They are a strong professional team who support community initiatives and this event is for a great cause. The investment in the Alumni Challenge shows the Bayhawks are a first-class organization willing to step out of the box."

In addition to the race and tailgate party, runners will be able to fundraise for the V Foundation and have a chance to win unique experiences.

"In partnering with the Bayhawks, we are working together to have a first-class fun atmosphere to offer participants and spectators to continue after the finish line," Heacock continued. Relay teams will also be able to see how their time stacks up against the Bayhawks Relay Team, comprised of professional lacrosse players from the organization.

The 2019 event at National Harbor will be the inaugural event with plans to grow the race into new markets in future years.

All runners will receive a quarter-zip race premium and 5K and Team Relay runners will be handed their finisher medals at the finish line. Registration for the race is open and more information about the event can be found at
