At the Quarter Pole: The Atlantic League is just past the quarter pole of the 2022 Championship Season ... Southern Maryland has opened a nine-game lead in the North Division while Gastonia and High Point appear destined to fight for the South title all the way to the conclusion of the first half.
Player Signings: The Cincinnati Reds purchased the contracts of High Point LHP Justin Nicolino and GAS RHP Deck McGuire... LAN RHP Brent Teller to the Arizona Diamondbacks ... Adrian Almeida from York to Saraperos de Saltillo.
First Half-Week Standouts: High Point SS Giovanny Alfonzo hit .625 (5-of-8) in two games vs. Charleston... Melky Mesa drove in six runs for York including his second 4-RBI game of the year (5/26)... Melky led the league in the first half-week with 11 total bases... High Point's Quincy Latimore reached base in seven of 10 plate appearances vs. CWV... Latimore also led the league in walks (5), slugging (1.200) and OPS (1.900) for the first half of the week... Austin Nicely fanned a league-best eight in seven innings vs. Staten Island (5/25).
Second Half-Week Standouts: CWV's Diego Goris went 8-for-16 in the four-game series with SMD... York's Jack Kenley went 7-for-14 vs. Lancaster... High Point's Logan Morrison slugged 1.111 vs. Staten Island while posting a league-high 1.656 OPS with two homers in nine ABs... Gastonia's Sam Bordner posted two wins at Long Island, both in relief... Duke von Schamann went five innings vs. York on 5/29 and did not allow a hit.
Triple Threat: Lexington's Courtney Hawkins is making a bid to win the Atlantic League's triple crown... Hawkins currently leads all active players with a .348 batting average, 12 homers and 34 RBI... He also tops the loop in on-base percentage (.435), slugging percentage (.714), OPS (1.149).
Streaks: Charleston's Tyler Wilson owns the ALPB's longest active streak of not allowing an earned run... In fact, Wilson has not allowed an earned run in his 14 appearances this season... Kentucky's Demetrius Moorer owns the league's longest active hitting streak at 13... KY has 10 or more hits in three straight games and five of its last six games.
League Leaders: Southern Maryland has the league's best home record with a 15-2 mark... Gastonia has the most road wins in the ALPB with 12... Kentucky leads the ALPB with a .271 team batting average while Gastonia's 42 home runs are the most in the league... Gastonia's 72 stolen bases are nearly double the number of second-best SMD (38)... HP's pitching staff owns a league-best 2.86 ERA... Staten Island's Julio Teheran leads the league with a 1.60 ERA while SMD's Matt Latos' 11 saves are nearly double the second-most in the league (6)... LAN's .302 batting average with runners in scoring position is the best in the league.
Walk-Off: Kelly Dugan dropped a single into CF to drive in the winning run in a 6-5, 10-inning Lancaster victory York on 5/30.
Grand Slam: Emmanuel Tapia sluged one in the top of the ninth to give Gastonia a 5-1 lead at LI on 5/27.
Team Pitching: Lancaster starters only allowed only two runs in 17 innings in the series vs. Gastonia (May 24-26)... The 'Stormers starters also posted a stretch of 20 consecutive scoreless innings... Charleston held SMD to just two hits in a 5-0 win on 5/27.
Team Hitting: York put up a 10-spot in the third inning of a 17-1 win at Staten Island on 5/26... SMD pounded 33 total bases in a 10-3 win at CWV on 5/30... KY hit five homers in a doubleheader sweep of Lexington on 5/30... High Point has won a franchise-record 10 straight games.
Individual Hitting: Kelly Dugan set a Lancaster record for most homers against the Revolution in a single season with his ninth (5/29)... He is hitting .417 with 22 RBI in 16 games vs. the Revs and posted his first four-hit game of the year vs. York on 5/30... ... SMD's Braxton Lee had four hits vs. CWV 5/29... SMD's Ryan Haug is 6-for-9 in his last three games... Gastonia's Joseph Rosa had an RBI single to lead the Honey Hunters to a 3-2 10-inning win over Long Island (5/29)... Michael Russell of High Point drove in four runs with a triple and a homer in a win over Charleston 5/24.
Individual Pitching: GAS's Sam Bordner became the first pitcher to get to six wins when he earned the win in relief at Long Island on 5/29... Lancaster's Brent Teller, in his final start before signing with the Diamondbacks, recorded a team-high and season-best 11 strikouts in a 3-2 win over York... In the same game, the Revs' Jorge Martinez fanned nine in six innings... CWV's Jordan Stephens allowed just a bloop hit while striking out seven over six innings in a 5/27 win over SMD... York's Eduardo Rivera fired eight innings of three-hit baseball in York's 3-1 win over Lancaster (5/28)... Dakota Freese held HP to just two hits through seven innings on 5/28 and left the game with a 1-0 lead... Jheyson Manzueta vs SI On 5/28 5 hits over eight innings and one run allowed... SI's Jordan Simpson retired the first 12 batter he faced vs. High Point 5/29... Deck McGuire, in his six starts for Gastonia, never allowed more hits than he recorded strikeouts in any start.
Long at-bats: Charleston's Connor Justus faced 11 pitches from High Point's Bryce Hensley before flying out to right on 5/24... Jared Walker of Southern Maryland walked on the 11th pitch he saw from Hunter Caudelle... York's Nellie Rodriguez grounded out to short after seeing 11 pitches from Staten Island's Chris Nunn 5/25... Kentucky's Nate Peden threw 11 pitches to Lexington's Pete Yorgen before issuing a walk.
