Philadelphia Rebels News Release
Yesterday the Rebels and Titans faced off for a winner-take-all in Jamestown, NY. The winner would go on to face Johnstown in the 2nd round. With the home team winning every game of this best-of-five series the Rebels were hoping the home town crowd would give them that extra bit of energy to secure the win. In the 1st period the Titans got out to a 1-0 lead nearly halfway into it after capitalizing on their first man-advantage. With little left on the clock in the opening period, Jamestown was on the power play when a bobbling puck went past Alex Roy who tried to guard the point. This led to Chris Garbe having a mini breakaway and was able to make the most of it giving his team a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Ryan Keane would go on to play the next 13:04 of the game before letting in the third goal and then being pulled in what would be his final junior hockey game (14/17 SVS). Replacing him was rookie netminder, Noah West, who only played one game in the postseason (Game 2). Not even two minutes after switching goalies the Rebels were finally able to get one past Brandon Perrone, thanks to Antonio Venuto scoring on the power play. Then with a minute left in the middle period Colin Schmidt received a great pass from captain, Alex Frye, and was able to tuck it home. When the final period of regulation started New Jersey was leading 3-2. Also, when the 3rd period started the Rebels were up 24-19 in shots. They tried everything they could to throw the frozen rubber at Perrone, but nothing got past him. Even in the last stages when Jamestown pulled West to put the extra attacker out nothing was getting past Perrone. Jamestown finished the game leading in shots 30-27 but did not lead where it mattered as they lost 3-2. New Jersey picked up the reverse sweep and now start to prepare for the regular season champions.
After the game handshakes took place and emotions started to set in for the guys in red, white, and blue who knew that their junior career has ended. The 2018-19 season for the Jamestown Rebels was one filled with a lot more highs than lows, but this team persevered through it all and made their way to the postseason in their first year in WNY. From Jim Glynn's franchise record point streak, Niki Jasko recording the only hat trick all season, to Auggie Moore playing the most regular season games in a Rebels jersey and everything in between it has been quite a season. While the roster will look different come next season the goal will remain the same and that is to win the Robertson Cup.
