The 2014 NASL Champion Scorpions to be Recognized by the San Antonio City Council

November 17, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Monday, November 17, 2014) - The San Antonio Scorpions won the first league championship in team history - and first ever professional soccer title for the city of San Antonio - last Saturday night with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. The match was played in front of a modern North American Soccer League (NASL) championship game record crowd of 7,847 fans at Toyota Field.

In honor of the Scorpions' achievement - in only the club's third year of existence - the San Antonio City Council will recognize the team at tomorrow morning's special Council meeting at the Municipal Plaza Building. Because Toyota Field lies in District 10 Councilman Mike Gallagher's district, he will introduce Scorpions officials and highlight the team's accomplishments.

In attendance for the Scorpions will be Championship Final hero Rafael Castillo, who scored on a spectacular bicycle kick and later assisted on the winning goal, plus starting striker Cesar Elizondo. Owner Gordon Hartman, President/General Manager Howard Cornfield and other front office staff will also be present Tuesday morning.
