November 1, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Texas Strikers News Release

Texas Strikers Owner, James Germany, and Strikers Coach, Topper Cogan, held a press conference at Ford Arena, introducing and signing the first 3 players of the 2012-2013 Striker Soccer Team.

THOMAS SHENTON

24-year old Shenton hails from Doncaster, England where he was High School Captain of the South Yorkshire Schools Boys and played 4 years at Doncaster College. He moved to Beaumont in the summer of 2011, where he was appointed Director of Training for the local youth soccer club (BYSC). He lives with his wife Ashley, who is currently a nursing student at Lamar University.

Coach Cogan comments:

"Thomas is a creative, technical striker with great vision. His quickness in tight places and quick trigger make him a threat every time he gets the ball at his feet. In addition, his soccer IQ is very high, so Thomas has a clear understanding about when to take players on and when to break down opponents by combining. I expect that Thomas will find himself quite high on the goal scoring and assists leaderboards!"

MIKEY OLABARRIETA (MIKEY O)

From Honduras, Michael Olabarrieta started playing soccer as soon as he could walk. He captained the development team for a professional team in Honduras in their minor categories. He was preselected at age 15 for the Honduras u-17 national team but moved to US with his family at that time. In Orlando he played varsity for his 5a highschool and made all state as a freshmen. After moving to Lumberton as a junior, he won district mvp and went to the playoffs, losing only to the #1 team in Texas. He attended Lamar University where he played Lamar club soccer. Mikey O currently coaches soccer at Kelly High School and is a trainer at Gusher United. Mikey still plays in local leagues in Beaumont.

Coach Cogan comments:

"I envision Mikey as a midfield playmaker. He is incredibly quick on the ball and loves to combine to break down opponents. In addition, he shares the ball with high quality passes in and around tight spaces. Mikey is going to be very difficult for opponents to shut down because he plays with only a few touches at a time and plays his teammates into dangerous areas often!"

JEFF LEBLANC

Jeff LeBlanc is a 29-year old from Port Neches, TX, but a current resident of Beaumont. He's played college club soccer for Lamar University Beaumont and University of Texas at Austin. He was also a part of the Austin, TX organizations the Lightning (USL-PDL) and the Amp'd (PASL-Premier).

Coach Cogan comments:

"Jeff is a big, strong defender with a strong grasp of how important it is to keep possession going forward. He reads the game well defensively, putting himself in the right place to shut down attacks before they start. Jeff is a hard tackler with a powerful shot when the game allows him to get forward. He will be a staple for us in the back, locking down defenses and enforcing our blue collar, hard-nosed style of play!"

Individual game tickets are $25, $19, $15 and $9. and are available at the Ford Park Box Office; ticketmaster.com; charge by phone at 800-745-3000; and all Ticketmaster locations, including HEB on Dowlen Road and the Beaumont Civic Center. Season tickets and discounts for groups of 10+ can also be purchased.
