Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

CHICAGO - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers' Offensive Coordinator TERRY KARG has been named the SFC Assistant Coach of the Year, as selected by a vote of arenafootball2 head coaches and media members.

Karg's offense was one of the most potent in the af2 in 2007, averaging 57.5 points per game during the regular season. That number was good enough to rank the Pioneers second overall in the league. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton also ranked sixth in the league in total offense with 287.8 yards per game.

In addition, Karg's offensive unit ranked first in third down conversions (51.5%), fourth in red zone offense (84.1%) and fifth in first downs (318). The on-field leader of Karg's offense is veteran signal-caller RYAN VENA, who produced 108 touchdowns (92 passing, 16 rushing), a number good enough to rank second in the af2. Two of Karg's offensive linemen, C BEAU ELLIOTT and OL ZACK LOVE were named, along with Vena, to the American Conference All-af2 First Team.

During the 2007 ArenaCup playoffs, Karg's group has played at an even higher level, averaging 63.5 points per game and amassing 318 yards per contest through two games.

Karg's coaching career began as an offensive assistant with the Portland Forest Dragons in the Arena Football League. In 2000, Karg accepted the Offensive Coordinator role with the expansion Los Angeles Avengers of the AFL. In 2001, he added the title Director of Player Personnel with the Avengers to his resume.

Karg becomes the fourth member of the Pioneers organization to receive a 2007 league award. K DAVID DAVIS was named the Havoc Kicker of the Year, DB CHRIS ROYAL was chosen as the Spalding Rookie of the Year and Head Coach RICH INGOLD was named the Sportexe af2 Coach of the Year.

The 2007 ArenaCup playoffs continue tonight with the American and National Conference Championship games. In the American Conference Championship, the Green Bay Blizzard will travel to take on Terry Karg and the East Division Champion Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers at 7:00 EST. The National Conference Championship will feature the Central Division Champion Tulsa Talons playing host to the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings at 8:00 EST.
