Teddy Bear Toss Highlights Weekend Blaze Games
December 13, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release
The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, face a pair of opponents on home ice this weekend while also brightening Christmas for many area children.
The Blaze host the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to toss onto the ice after the first Blaze goal as donations to McLean County Toys for Tots. Fans are also welcome to bring new unwrapped toys to a drop-off location on the U.S. Cellular Coliseum concourse as additional donations to Toys for Tots. Any fan who brings stuffed animals or toys for donation on Friday will receive a voucher for $6 off an adult ticket for this Sunday's 4:05 p.m. game.
The Oilers are currently in last place in the Central Hockey League standings (8-14-2, 18 points), seven points behind the fifth-place Blaze (12-9-1, 25 points). The Oilers have lost four straight contests, including Saturday's 8-3 Bloomington victory in which the Blaze set a franchise record for goals in a single game. The Blaze have won the three meetings this season over the Oilers, all in Tulsa. Half of Travis Granbois' season point production has come against Tulsa with five goals and four assists, while five of the 13 goals from Oilers forward Gary Steffes have been against the Blaze.
The Blaze then visit suburban Kansas City on Saturday to face the Missouri Mavericks, followed by a bus race back to Bloomington for a Blaze-Mavericks rematch on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Sunday is a Casey's 8 Gallons Day, in which fans who buy eight gallons of gasoline at area Casey's General Stores receive a voucher to purchase a ticket for Sunday's game for only $8. Fans are invited to skate with the players after Sunday's game.
The Junior Blaze return to action this weekend against Tennyson Chevrolet on Friday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. before the Blaze games at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Admission to the Junior Blaze games is included in the Blaze ticket.
Blaze games can be heard on WJBC.com and CHL-TV with links to both broadcasts on the home page of www.bloomingtonblaze.com. Fans are invited to watch road games at Gill Street Sports Bar and Restaurant, 3002 Gill Street in Bloomington. Team information can also be found on Facebook and Twitter (BLMBlaze) or by calling 309-TC SPORT (827-7678).
