GREENVILLE, S.C. (December 17, 2002) - The National Basketball Development League is celebrating the Holidays with the people of the communities where they live and work. In all, NBDL teams are scheduled to be involved with 54 community events in the month of December.

Highlighting the list of projects where the NBDL is involved are visits to hospitals, school Read to Achieve events, Christmas dinner with children from local orphanages, as well as food, clothing and toy drives.

"Investing our time and energies in our communities is both our privilege and our obligation," NBDL president Phil Evans said. "Our teams will continue to spend as much time as possible lending a hand to worthwhile community initiatives."

The Mobile Revelers and Huntsville Flight are lending a hand with local toy collection and distribution centers affiliated with the Salvation Army and Toys for Tots, respectively. The Columbus Riverdragons recently collected and distributed holiday gifts to family members of the U.S. Army First Battalion, 29th Infantry.

In Fayetteville, the Patriots assisted with the Cumberland County Sheriff Department's Shop With a Sheriff Program to assist 45 families and also distributed books for the Falcon Children's Home associated with the Fort Bragg Morale Welfare and Recreation department.

On Wednesday, Asheville Altitude players and front office staff are scheduled to visit the Mission St. Joseph Hospital Pediatric Ward to read and play games, while the Greenville Groove will continue its collection of coats and caps for children in conjunction with Joshua 24:15 Inc. Ministries.

Before hitting the road for a Saturday game at North Charleston, the Roanoke Dazzle will spend part of Thursday at the Roanoke Community Hospital Children's Ward, reading to and coloring with the patients, as well as presenting gifts. Meanwhile, the Lowgators will host an in-arena food drive when league-leading Huntsville visits the North Charleston Coliseum Friday and will also help serve Christmas dinner for the Jenkins Orphanage.

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Mobile Revelers (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), Greenville Groove (S.C.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
