Team USA's Seven Special Teams Goals Dominate North Stars, 10-0

BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Behind the effort of seven special teams goals, the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated in-state rival Traverse City, 10-0 in the second game of the North American League North Division Showcase this evening.

USA forward Rhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the way for Team USA recording his first hat-trick of the season (3-0). Bill Sweatt (Elburn, Ill. ) recorded a team-high four assists in the victory over the North Stars tonight for Team USA.

In goal for the U.S. National Under-18 Team, Joe Palmer (Yorkville, N.Y.) and Brett Bennett (Williamsville, N.Y.) combined to shutout Traverse City, stopping all 22 shots they faced while splitting time in goal.

Tommorow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. the U.S. National Under-18 Team will face tournament host, Mahoning Valley Phantoms, at the Chevrolet Centre in Youngstown, Ohio.

NOTES: The U.S. National Under-18 Team went 9 for 16 on the power-play in the two game series with Traverse City. It total, Team USA scored 12 special teams goals in the two games ... The NAHL North Division Showcase is an annual event hosted by the Mahoning Valley Phantoms ... This year's showcase features the Alpena Ice Diggers, Traverse City North Stars, Mahoning Valley Phantoms, Cleveland Barons, Springfield Jr. Blues and the U.S. National Under-18 Team.
