Mesa Miners News Release
The Mesa Golden Baseball League announced today that the name of the newly formed professional baseball team will be the Mesa Miners. The Miners was selected from over 1,000 entries in the "Name Your Team" contest presented by Safeway.
"We considered a wide range of criteria in naming the team" said Becky Thielen, General Manager of the Mesa Miners. "We wanted something that was representative of the community and had the right characteristics for minor league baseball. It needed to be fun and accessible to all age groups, creating the opportunity for all members of our community to feel connected to the team."
The name, "Miners", was submitted by several different individuals during the 10 week process. The team will select one of the winning entrants to receive the $500.00 or the season tickets prize through a drawing. The winner will be announced during the logo unveiling, scheduled for March 15 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Sluggo's Sports Grill, in Mesa.
The first pitch in Mesa Miners history is set for Thursday, May 26 against the Yuma Scorpions, at HoHoKam Park. Game time for the opener is 6:35 pm. Season Tickets are on sale now and start at just $180 (that's less than $4 per game)!
