Rockford Thunder News Release
The Thunder's Tonya Callahan and Kristen Zaleski broke out of long slumps Friday, but strong hitting performances from Canadian batters proved to be enough to get by the Thunder (8-6) for the second straight night, 8-2.
Among Rockford's highlights on the evening were Callahan's second home run of the season, a two-run shot that drove in right fielder Shanna Diller in from first after Diller drew a leadoff walk in the second inning. Megan Brown struck out four Canadians in two innings of relief pitching, but gave up four runs in the seventh.
Canada had solid hitting performances from several position players, especially Sheena Lawrick (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Megan Timpf (2-for-3, RBI), and Jennifer Salling (1-for-4, home run, 2 RBI). Cassidy Scoggins (3-3) took the loss for Rockford, while Robin Mackin earned the win for the Canadian National Team, giving up two earned runs over four innings.
Team Canada and Rockford will play the third match-up of the four-game series Saturday at Players Park in Roscoe at 5:35 pm. Lefty Dione Meier is expected to match up against Rockford's Allison Kime (2-2, 3.74 ERA), who pitched a no-hitter against the Netherlands in her last start. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the gate beginning an hour before the game.
