Traverse City North Stars News Release
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Traverse City North Stars closed out their three-game run at the Soo Eagles Labor Day Weekend Showcase by doubling up the hosts, claiming an 8-4 victory on Sunday at Pullar Stadium to finish the weekend with a trio of wins in as many tries.
Jake Peacock (Traverse City, MI/Bay Reps HS) led the way with a pair of goals and an assist, while Kyle Schempp (Saginaw, MI/Compuware U18) delivered a playmaker (three assists). Chris Waterstreet (Northville, MI/TC North Stars) and Will Badner (Cadillac, MI/Motor City NAHL) kicked in with a goal and two assists each.
"We didn't play great tonight," said Stars head coach Chad Fournier. "In fact, we took a bit of a step back in certain aspects of the game. There were times when we weren't playing within our system, and guys were playing more like a bunch of individuals. We picked up our effort in the second period after a pretty rough first, and we were able to get a lot of guys a lot of ice time."
Jon Farkas (Brighton, MI/Compuware U18) scored a goal and set up another, while Robert Wiener (Williamston, MI/TC North Stars), Kyle Loridon (Howell, MI/Lansing Capitals U18), and Alec Shields (Pittsburgh, PA/TC North Stars/Mercyhurst College) contributed a goal apiece. Mitchell Snider (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) had two assists, with one each going to Frank Gilbert (Traverse City, MI/TC West HS) and Nathan Harris (Fowlerville, MI/Lansing Capitals U18). Michael Parda (Waukesha, WI/Cleveland NA3HL) stopped 22 shots in net for Traverse City.
The North Stars, who will face NAHL rival Port Huron on Thursday at Big Rapids in the final preseason contest before the NAHL Showcase opener on Sept. 14, outscored their Labor Day weekend opponents by a combined 23-5 margin.
"Overall, it was a good weekend," Fournier added. "For a team with plenty of new guys and younger players it was a great chance to get a lot of work in. I think we showed we can score some goals, even our younger forwards. We've still got a lot to work on, but it was a good start."
