SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Traverse City North Stars' tune-up season continued on a positive note Saturday, as the Stars skated past one of the Ontario Junior Hockey Association's powerhouses in a 3-1 exhibition victory over Wellington on the second day of action in the Soo Eagles Labor Day Weekend Showcase at Pullar Stadium.

Alexander Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/TC North Stars) set up two of the Stars' three scores, with Andreas Rosenstam (Stockholm, SWE/SDE J18), Kyle Loridon (Howell, MI/Lansing Capitals U18), and Eric Jones (Traverse City, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) registering goals for Traverse City. Kyle Froese (Traverse City, MI/TC Central HS) and Alec Shields (Pittsburgh, PA/TC North Stars/Mercyhurst Coll.) also drew assists.

Wellington is the reigning Hewitt Cup titleholder, which is awarded to the winner of the Central Ontario junior championships, and is the only junior-A club to ever record 12 straight seasons of 30 or more wins.

"This was a good game against a very good team," remarked North Stars head coach Chad Fournier. "We got good goaltending from Kyle Laslo, and our young defense played a very strong game. We know we have a lot of veteran strength up front, but our retooled defensive unit is playing ahead of where we thought they might be at this point. The idea is to get better every time out, and despite how well we played on Friday night (a 12-0 win over Blind River), I think we improved tonight again."

Laslo (Fenton, MI/Osoyoos KIJHL) turned aside all but one shot on Saturday, working the entire 60 minutes. Michael Parda (Waukesha, WI/Cleveland NA3HL) is slated for solo duty betwixt the pipes in TC's Saturday evening finale against the host Eagles.
