Tavares and Steenhuis Win Week Seven Awards

BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 14, 2007) --The National Lacrosse League announced Wednesday that Buffalo's John Tavares was named Offensive and Overall Player of the Week, while Mark Steenhuis was named Transition Player of the Week for Week Seven of the NLL season.

Tavares was named the Offensive and Overall Player of the Week after scoring four goals and three assists in a 12-11 road win over the Chicago Shamrox on Sunday. He scored two of his goals on the power play and added a short handed goal in the victory. The NLL's all-time leading scorer also collected six loose balls. For the season, Tavares ranks second in the league with 44 points on 18 goals and 26 assists. Tavares also earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week Four this season.

Steenhuis earned Transition Player of the Week honors after scoring three goals and adding an assist in the team's win on Sunday. He scored one power play goal and picked up three loose balls. Steenhuis currently ranks third on the Bandits with 22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists. He was also named the League's Transition Player of the Week in Week Four.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the League's 13 member clubs.
