Tarsi Wins Miracle Debut as Offense Awakens

FORT MYERS -- Michael Tarsi scattered seven hits in his six innings in winning his Florida State League debut, and the Miracle offense woke up after two straight shutouts to take the final game of the series with the Sarasota Reds, 6-3.

The Miracle set the tone in the first inning with three runs despite two outs. Runners were at the corners with two down as Joe Benson had a great at-bat, working the count, to draw a walk. With the bases full, Evan Bigley lined one through the right side of the infield into right to bring in one. Nick Romero then doubled off the left-field wall -- just missing a home run by mere feet -- to score two more.

Nick Romero had another RBI double in the third as the Miracle built a 6-1 lead. The Reds would scratch together a couple more runs, but it wasn't enough.

Tarsi (1-0) went six innings with seven hits, two runs (one earned), two walks, and seven strikeouts. Spencer Steedley allowed an unearned run in two innings of work, and Loek van Mil struck out two in the ninth inning for his first save of the season. Van Mil allowed one hit.

Travis Webb (5-7) took the loss after he surrendered five earned runs on seven hits in his three innings. He walked two and struck out two. Justin Freeman allowed an unearned run on four hits in his three innings of relief, and Mark Pawelek had a scoreless two innings with two walks and one strikeout.

Joe Benson was 2-for-2 with two runs, two walks, and a double. He's collected three hits in first two games back from the disabled list. Other multihit games for the home team came from Mark Dolenc (2-for-5, stolen base, two runs scored), Estarlin de los Santos (2-for-4), Nick Romero (2-for-4, one run, one double, three RBI), and Jair Fernandez (2-for-3, RBI).

Fort Myers will host the Palm Beach Cardinals in the first of a three-game series starting Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
