Florida Fire Frogs News Release
KISSIMMEE, FLA.: The Tampa Tarpons erased 3-0 and 4-2 deficits on their way towards outlasting the Florida Fire Frogs in ten innings, 5-4, on Tuesday evening at Osceola County Stadium.
After a 1:03 delay started the evening due to wet grounds, the Fire Frogs came out of the gates early with single tallies in the first two frames. Brett Langhorne led off the game with a double and came across on a Jefrey Ramos RBI knock for the lead, 1-0.
Kevin Josephina singled, stole second, and scored on a ball hit by Jordan Rodgers that eluded Tampa second baseman Kyle Gray, resulting in an error and a 2-0 Florida advantage.
Hard-throwing Tarpons starter RHP Luis Medina surrendered just one earned run over five innings, working around five hits and racking up eight punch outs while receiving a no-decision.
The margin was extended to 3-0 on a Drew Lugbauer run-scoring two-base hit, plating Ramos who had walked ahead of him.
Tampa started to chip away against RHP Odalvi Javier in the seventh. A single and a walk put two on for Gray, who smacked one of his three base knocks to put the Tarpons on the board, 3-1, and force Javier out of the game. A diving catch made by Garrison Schwartz on a fly hit to right field off the bat of Pablo Olivares minimized the damage but gave Steven Sensley the opportunity to come home for the first of his two runs scored and make it 3-2.
Javier tossed 6 and 1/3's stanzas for the second straight start, yielding six hits, two earned runs, four walks, and fanning four as part of a no-decision.
Rodgers singled and Langhorne was drilled by an LHP Anderson Severino fastball to put two men on in the bottom of the seventh. Ramos delivered with a chopper that found its way through the middle to bump the score up to 4-2 in favor of the Fire Frogs.
Ramos notched his 26th multi-hit game and his 12th multi-RBI effort by going 2-4 with two RBIs and coaxing a walk. He has hit safely in eight of his last nine assignments.
Josephina singled twice, stole a bag, and scored once while recording his 18th multi-hit game.
Severino surrendered three hits and two runs with four strikeouts over five outs for the Tarpons as their first arm out of the bullpen.
The Tarpons had their first two men reach of the ninth opposite RHP Lukas Young and Gray singled against RHP Brandon White to load the sacks. An Olivares RBI groundout brought them to within 4-3. A sacrifice fly from Wilkerman Garcia evened the game, 4-4, and pushed the game into extras.
Young gave up two hits, a walk, and two runs across 1 and 2/3's innings.
A wild pitch from White moved placed runner Alexander Palma over to third in the tenth. Diego Castillo completed the Tarpons comeback with a single over the head of a leaping Josephina at third; 5-4 Tampa.
White (3-4) faced nine across two one-run frames of two-hit baseball and accepting the setback.
RHP Hobie Harris (3-4) set down all seven Fire Frogs that he dealt with and piled up four strikeouts in the process. RHP Matt Wivinis spun a 1-2-3 tenth to earn his seventh save.
Mickey Gasper turned in a 2-4 night at the dish and was plated once. Donny Sands singled in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and ended up scoring the tying run.
Schwartz was issued a free pass in the second against Medina, advancing his on-base streak to seven consecutive games. He has reached in 19 of his previous 23 assignments.
NEXT UP: The Fire Frogs will have to contend with one of the FSL's best pitchers in RHP Miguel Yajure (8-6, 2.15). Florida's starter is to be determined on Wednesday. First pitch of Wednesday's middle game of the series is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
Fans in attendance can enjoy whiskey, mixed drink, and beer specials along with four "Fire Frog legs" for $5 or a basket with fries for $8.
