Tampa Offense Held Quiet in Bradenton Win, 4-1

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (5-2) lost their first home game of the season as the Bradenton Marauders (3-4) took game three of the series, 4-1, on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

LHP Ian Clarkin (0-1) got the start for Tampa and held the Marauders scoreless until the fourth.

Kevin Newman singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Kramer. One batter later, Newman tagged up to third on a fly out to right by Jerrick Suiter. An errant throw by right fielder Austin Aune allowed Newman to cross the plate.

Taylor Gushue walked and Logan Hill singled with one out in the fifth. Gushue scored on a double by Pablo Reyes and Hill came home on a sacrifice fly by Newman, giving Bradenton a 3-0 lead.

Clarkin pitched into the sixth and Connor Joe led off the frame with a ground-rule double. One out later, Jordan Luplow singled in Joe and the Yankees went to their bullpen.

RHP Joey Maher finished off the sixth and worked three and two-third scoreless innings of relief for Tampa. Maher scattered three hits and struck out one.

LHP Brandon Waddell (1-0) tossed six shutout innings, holding the T-Yanks to three hits and a walk while striking out two. Waddell retired the final 12 batters he faced in his first win of the season for Bradenton.

Tampa managed a run in the ninth against RHP Nick Neumann. Mark Payton drew a leadoff walk and Jorge Mateo reached on a hit-by-pitch. Both advanced on a wild pitch and Payton scored on a groundout by Miguel Andujar before Neumann closed out the Bradenton win.

Clarkin allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in five and a third innings, walking three while striking out four. The 21-year-old threw 56 of his 87 pitches for strikes.

Up next, the Yankees and Marauders close out the series with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch on Thursday. RHP Chance Adams (0-0, 13.50 ERA) is slated to start for Tampa against RHP Colten Brewer (0-1, 1.80 ERA) for Bradenton.
