VSI Tampa Bay FC News Release
Tampa, Fla - Tony Donatelli captures the first of four goals in VSI Tampa Bay FC's 4-2 victory over the Charleston Battery in Plant City Stadium Saturday evening.
Former Battery player and current VSI captain Kyle Hoffer delivered a sharp pass to the feet of midfielder Tony Donatelli opening the doors to a flurry of goals in the first ten minutes of Saturday night's match.
Donatelli collected the ball and dribbled up the right flank to drive home the first goal of the match behind outstretched Battery keeper Kevin Klasila in the seventh minute of play. Moments later outside back, Alex Freitas, slipped a ball into VSI forward Sallieu Bundu in what looked to be the second goal of the match. Bundu, unsuccessful in his attempt, narrowly missed the net.
Less than a minute later Bundu strikes again. This time with a crisp pass across the goal mouth that bypasses Freitas and lands at the patient feet of center back Josh Rife. Rife notched the second goal of the match for VSI Tampa Bay.
Combination play from Freitas and Bundu proved effective again in the 18' of play as Bundu was taken down in the box after trying to control a cross from Freitas. Chad Burt stepped up to take the free kick and beautifully placed the ball into the top right corner of the net driving VSI up to 3.
VSI entered the second half with a 3-0 lead over Charleston. Freitas crosses a ball to Bundu in the 50' and Bundu redirects it just wide of Klasila's net. Persistency proved key for Bundu as JT Noone's pass found his feet in the 59' of play and he fired it home to tally the fourth goal of the match for VSI.
The Battery were not troubled by the goals and continued to spring balls forward finding success in the 63' when forward Dane Kelly assisted midfielder Heviel Cordoves. Charleston struck again in the 90' of play from a penalty kick awarded to Jose Cuevas. Cuevas' strike provided the Battery their second and final goal of the match sending them back to Charleston with a 4-2 loss.
VSI Tampa Bay FC turn their sights to Harrisburg. Harrisburg enters Plant City Stadium on Friday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the match are available online at www.vsi-fc.com and the match will also be live on www.uslnation.com.
