May 27, 2003 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Tulsa Talons News Release

Tulsa, OK- The arenafootball2 League office has announced their weekly award winners for this past weekend's play. For the second time this season, Tulsa Talons quarterback Craig Strickland has been named the af2 Offensive Player of the Week after he led the Talons to a 65-48 victory over the Riptide last Saturday night in San Diego. The victory ran the Talons' record to a National Conference-best 7-1 as they completed the season sweep over the Riptide (4-4). This marks the fifth time in his career that Strickland has won the Offensive Player of the Week award. He won it once during the 2000 season, twice in 2001, and now twice this season.

Strickland completed 19 of 34 passes for 235 yards and tied a team record with eight touchdown passes in Saturday's victory over San Diego. The 6-2, 200-pound signal caller out of Texas-El Paso also ran for another touchdown. On the season, Strickland ranks near the top of every af2 ranking for quarterbacks including passer rating (sixth with 118.4), passing yards (second with 1,967), passing touchdowns (third with 42), total offense (second with 1,986), completions (first with 266), and rushing touchdowns (tied for fifth with seven). Strickland, the Talons all-time leading passer, has accounted for 199 total touchdowns (171 passing and 28 rushing) and thrown for 8,759 yards in his af2 career.

Strickland and the rest of the Talons will be looking to win their 23rd consecutive regular season home game Saturday night when they host the Arkansas Twisters (4-3) at the Tulsa Convention Center. The Talons and Twisters split last season's regular season series with each team defending their home turf. The Talons however, ended Arkansas' season with a 34-32 first-round playoff victory in the Convention Center.

Tulsa (7-1) is in first place in the National Conference / Central Division, while the Twisters (4-3) are in second place. The Bossier City Battle Wings (3-5) and the Memphis Xplorers (2-5) round out the four team division.

Tickets to this Saturday's Talons - Twisters showdown are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Talons office, or by phone at 584-2000.
