December 3, 2008 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Tulsa Talons News Release
The Tulsa Talons, of the arenafootball2 league, are excited to announce that their 2008 Coaching staff will be returning for another hard-hitting year. Head Coach Mitch Allner, Offensive Coordinator Craig Strickland and Offensive and Defensive Line Coach Marty Robinson guided the Talons to a 2007 ArenaCup Championship and the Talons 7th consecutive division championship in 2008.
Allner returns for his fifth season with the Talons, two of which he served as the Offensive Coordinator. Allner played five years in the af2 as a top-ranked player, playing for the Talons, as well as the Quad City Steamwheelers and the Iowa Barnstormers. He is the first Head Coach in af2 history to have played and coached for an ArenaCup Championship. His name continues to be in the leagues record and fact book each year. His accolades include: All-Time af2 leading scorer (2005), National Conference All-af2 Second Team honoree (2003), an All-af2 First Team performer and Offensive Player of the Year (2002). After a successful season with the Talons in 2002, Allner signed with the Las Vegas Gladiators of the AFL.
Strickland returns to the Talons for his third season as the Offensive Coordinator. Prior to joining the Talons Coaching Staff, he played in the af2 for the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and led the Talons to a Championship win in 2003 as their quarterback. Strickland still holds records in the af2 for his game against Arkansas where he scored 30 points as the Talons quarterback. As a Talon, he holds several records in Career Passing Yards (10,509), Career Passing TDs (212), Single Season Passing Yards (4,009 in 2001), Single Season Passing TDs (83 in 2003), and Single Game Rushing TDs (4). In 2003, he signed with the Dallas Desperados of the AFL.
Robinson, who first joined the Talons in 2005 under then Head Coach David Alexander, returns for his fifth season as the Offensive and Defensive Line Coach. He put in double duty by helping lead the Talons to their Championship win in 2007 while coaching High School football at East Central. Robinson has coached football locally for the past sixteen years, but is taking some time off to enjoy watching his teenage son play for one of the state's top rated High School Football teams, the "Broken Arrow Tigers".
"We are extremely excited about having our entire coaching staff back for the 2009 season. They are a hard working group that works well together and we expect the 2009 season to be our best yet," said co-owner Paul Ross. The Talons are moving into the new state of the art BOK Center for their 2009 season, and expect the homefield advantage they enjoyed at the Tulsa Convention Center to be amplified and help add to their league record for wins.
