January 30, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Tacoma Stars News Release
The Tacoma Stars started off strong with a similar style to last week's game rattling off five straight goals against the Wenatchee Fire in a Saturday Night Firefight. The Stars went to action with the first goal by Ian Weinberg who recorded a hat trick last week. Then the team shared the load with goals by Greg Howes, two from Daniel Gray, and Leighton O'Brien all before halftime.
Wenatchee began feeling their rhythm with a goal right before the half by #18 Mauricio Lopez and three more in the 3rd quarter alone. With the fire closing the gap to 6-4 by the 4th quarter, Greg took charge as leader and coach and sent a back heel flick in the net to settle the score at 7-4. He recorded a hat trick including that last goal along with an assist to Leighton. Wenatchee kept the Stars on their heels in the second half, but Daniel Gray's two early goals and solid team effort helped solidify the win
With the lead at 6-2 in the 3rd quarter, the Stars still applied pressure defense when Wenatchee held the ball and the Stars goalkeeper Chris Kintz kept busy when the stars fouled two players back to back in the penalty area. After the game, Coach Greg Howes said, "I thought the team played well as a whole and Chris was big in goal tonight. We're confident in our preparation, but we know next week will be a big challenge."
Next week, the Tacoma Stars will host back-to-back games against the first place San Diego Sockers for a Western Division series. The first game of the series is Click! Cable TV Night on Friday February 4th at 7:30. The second is Military Appreciation Night on Saturday February 5th at 7:30. The Saturday night game is also the semifinals of the US Open.
