
T-Yanks Stay Hot with 6-1 Win over Miracle

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (18-15) have a six-game winning streak after taking the opener over the Fort Myers Miracle (22-10), 6-1 on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The T-Yanks held the Miracle to three hits in the win.
LHP Caleb Smith retired the first 14 batters of the game, taking a perfect game into the fifth inning before Miracle 3B Travis Harrison reached on a two-out bunt single.
The Yankees broke a scoreless tie in the third against RHP D.J. Baxendale. Cito Culver hit a leadoff single into right field. Two outs later, Danny Oh drove an RBI double down the right field line. Jose Rosario then plated Oh with a single to center.
Tampa sparked another two-out rally in the fourth. With Culver at first, Trent Garrison singled to right. Anderson Feliz then drove a triple to the wall in left-center field, scoring two more runs for the Yankees.
Fort Myers scored its only run in the fifth. Harrison hit the bunt single and advanced on a throwing error by Smith. A balk moved the runner to third before Mike Gonzales singled down the first base line.
Rosario collected his third hit of the night with a leadoff single in the fifth. Greg Bird then smashed a ball off the roof of the bar in the back of the Walgreens Deck in right field. It was Bird's seventh home run of the season and it gave the Yankees a 6-1 lead.
Smith (2-0) allowed one run on two hits in six innings, tallying five strikeouts while not issuing a walk.
LHP Ramon Benjamin surrendered the only other hit to Fort Myers, dealing two scoreless frames. RHP Alex Smith pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
Baxendale (4-2) took the loss for the Miracle, allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings. The righty walked one and struck out five.
Rosario went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Feliz drove in a pair of runs, going 2-for-4 with a triple. Culver reached base three times, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Bird picked up two RBI, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
The series continues on Friday at 7:00 p.m. as right-hander Brett Gerritse (3-5, 3.86 ERA) takes the hill for Tampa. The Miracle will counter with RHP Tim Shibuya (7-3, 3.13 ERA).
This Friday is the annual Tampa Yankees Back to School Blast. The first 600 kids (ages 14 and under) will receive a backpack, thanks to Hi-Chew.
