
Syracuse Returns to War Memorial for New Year's Day Tilt

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers (4-2), winners of three of their last four, will ring in the New Year when they host the Syracuse Silver Knights (3-5) on Thursday, January 1, 2014 at the War Memorial at the Blue Cross Arena. Kickoff for the match is slated for 4:00 p.m.
Thursday will mark the second match of the season between Rochester and Syracuse. The first match saw Rochester come away with a thrilling 12-11 shootout win back on December 20 in Rochester. The match takes on the added importance of a divisional clash as the Lancers currently reside in second place in the Eastern Division 3 games behind first place Baltimore and 2 games ahead of Syracuse.
Rochester will be looking to get back on track after a 19-8 loss against the Baltimore Blast on Saturday while Syracuse is coming off a win at Harrisburg on Saturday. The Lancers will be looking to maintain momentum gained from their 4-1 start to the season. The Lancers welcomed the return of Jeremy Ortiz to the lineup on Saturday against Baltimore. The striker re-joined the club last week and netted two goals for Rochester against the Blast.
The first 1,000 fans attending the Lancers game will receive a free cowbell, courtesy of the Ide Family of Dealerships. In addition, Rochester area twins Cara and Rhian Morgan will sing the National Anthem prior to the match. The twins were first contestants on American Idol back in 2003 and advanced to "Hollywood Week" on the show. The pair also most recently were chosen by Country Music star Blake Shelton on season 4 of NBC's The Voice, another popular singing show, in 2013.
LANCERS TO HIT ROAD FOLLOWING THURSDAY'S M ATCHRochester's New Year will not be a quiet one as the club will take off for a pair of road matches following their match with Syracuse on Thursday. The club will kickoff against the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, January 3 at 7:05 p.m. before returning to action on Sunday, January 4 in a 4:00 p.m. start at the Chicago Mustangs.
The Wave, traditionally one of the league's powers rest in second place in the league's Central Division at 6-4. They trail the Missouri Comets (9-0) by three and a half games. Meanwhile, the Mustangs sit just a half game behind the Wave and are 5-4.
LANCERS AUCTION OFF JERSEYS The Rochester Lancers auctioned off their custom tribute jerseys worn during their match against the Baltimore Blast on Saturday. The jerseys, which featured the Rochester Police Department logo on the front fetched over $5,000 in an auction in the main atrium of the Blue Cross Arena after the match. The proceeds from the match benefitted the Spirit of Blue, a national organization for police office safety. -more- LANCERS/add1
The Lancers next home game is on Saturday, January 10, against the Detroit Waza Flo at the Blue Cross Arena. Kickoff for the match is 1:00 p.m. Individual game tickets are now on sale for $10 and $15 for all fans over the age of two.
