New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. â New Mexico Scorpions' Director of Media Relations, Tom Sye, has been named the Central Hockey League's top media director by InTheCrease.com Magazine. In his current story, "The Warrior" who writes a regular column for the popular on-line publication (www.inthecrease.com) named Sye, along with San Antonio's Bob Hoffman, as the co-winners of his yearly award.
Sye came to the Scorpions just before the 2001-2002 season began and quickly won the affection of Scorpion fans as the animated play-by-play voice of New Mexico hockey. In fact, in his rookie year in the league, Sye was named the fifth best radio voice in the CHL by the same publication a few weeks ago. But radio is only part of his job. Tom puts out regular, entertaining press releases that have become recognized as some of the best in the Central Hockey League. Meanwhile, his detailed game notes made life easier for the media who cover Scorpions hockey.
"The Warrior" says Sye won the award "...in an upset over Oklahoma City's Josh Evans. Evans was a front runner for the award until Sye came out with the Scorpions Newsletter full of facts, meaningless, but interesting bits..." Those meaningless, but interesting bits will continue to come your way on a weekly basis, during the off-season.
"I'm very honored to have won this award," said Sye. "I write things every week and put it out there. Then you just don't know. It's nice that somebody is reading it and it's appreciated."
"I'm glad the rest of the league recognizes what we've known for a while," said Jeff Siembieda, Scorpions' Vice President of Media and Entertainment. "Everyone in the organization knows Tom is the best in the league, both on the radio and in media relations. He works incredibly hard, he's great at what he does and he deserves this award. We're proud of him and sure are glad he's here."
Before coming to the Scorpions, Tom worked at KNFT-AM/FM in Silver City, NM for two years. Prior to that, he was the assistant media relations director and radio voice for the Miami Matadors of the East Coast Hockey League.
Tom is responsible for most of the Scorpions' press releases, but he did NOT scribe this story.
