Houston Comets News Release
HOUSTON â Houston Comets forward Sheryl Swoopes became the fifth member of the WNBA "3,000-Point Club" with a 33-point performance in a 69-63 loss versus the Seattle Storm (6/18). Her 3,000th point came on a lay-up with 28.0 seconds left in the game to cut the Storm lead to 67-61. Swoopes, who entered the night with 2,969 points in her career, now stands at 3,002 total points.
Los Angeles Sparks center Lisa Leslie (3,785), Houston Comets forward Tina Thompson (3,385), Charlotte Sting guard Andrea Stinson (3,196) and Minnesota Lynx guard Katie Smith (3,028) are the other four members of the "3,000-Point Club."
Swoopes also tied her career high with 33 points and set an opponent's individual career best against the Storm. She previously scored 33 points in an 88-84 overtime win at Utah on July 16, 1999. Swoopes topped the best night ever by a Seattle opponent by one point. Three other times in Storm history had a Seattle opponent scored 32 points (most recently by Minnesota's Smith at Seattle on June 14, 2003). This marked the sixth time in her career that Swoopes has reached or surpassed the 30-point plateau. Her 33-point night is the second highest individual point total by a Comets player this season. Thompson scored a career-high 35 points on May 23 at New York.
