Swoopes and Fury blowout Stealth

February 18, 2004 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Houston Stealth News Release

Wednesday night, the first place Houston Stealth met the third place Dallas Fury for the second time this season. This meeting took place on Dallas’ home court on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas. Unlike the first matchup, the tables were turned as the Fury pounded the Stealth 92 60.

This was the first meeting between the Stealth and their former teammate, Sheryl Swoopes. The near-capacity crowd (822) saw four Fury players for the score in double figures. Anna DeForge scored game high 18 points, Sheryl Swoopes and Cheryl Ford had 16 apiece, and Felicia Ragland added 10. Swoopes shot 5 for 12 for her 16 points. The Stealth had three players in double figures Octavia Blue (12), Tamicha Jackson (11), and Cynthia Cooper (10).

Fury forward Cheryl Ford had a double-double with game high 10 rebounds to go with her 16 points. Tammy Jackson was the Stealth’s top rebounder with 6 boards.

The Fury offense proved too much for the Stealth to handle as they shot 50% from the field compared to the Stealth’s ice-cold 28%.

With the loss, the Stealth’s record falls to 6 4 while Dallas’ record improves to 5-4. Both teams are still undefeated on their respective home courts.

The Stealth’s next game is Sunday, February 22nd, at Autry Court versus the Birmingham Power. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm.

The Stealth, the two-time defending National Women’s Basketball League (NWBL) Champion, plays its home games at Rice University’s Autry Court. Individual game tickets are on sale on the Internet at http://www.nwbl.com/stealth/tickets or at the Rice ticket office an hour before the game. The NWBL is a six-team league that features 27 active WNBA players. Collins, CO), the Dallas Fury (Dallas, TX), the Houston Stealth (Houston, TX), and the Springfield Spirit (Springfield, MA). The season runs through March 23. A four-team, single-elimination playoff begins on April 1, 2004.
