Swinehart's Goal and Assist Leads Eagles to Victory

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles hosted the Raleigh CASL Elite tonight at beautiful Waddell Stadium. Charlotte extended its four game undefeated streak to five bringing the Eagles record to 5-1-1 with tonight's 3-0 victory over Raleigh.

The Charlotte Eagles started off the first half on the attack early, creating several close scoring chances. Charlotte's first goal of the match came in the 20th minute of play, on the restart. Kevin O'Brien took the free kick from about 45 yards out and found Josh Rife inside the box. Rife got up over the defense for the header, and flicked the ball to the top right corner to beat Raleigh keeper Creasmas. In the 40th minute, Charlotte native Jacob Coggins, looking for his eighth goal of the season, looped a shot over the keeper, but hit the crossbar. In the 45th minute, Eric Ozimek, looked to have a sure goal, till Creasmas's hand came out of nowhere for the save. The half ended with Rife scoring the lone goal. Charlotte outshot Raleigh 10-4 in the half.

Charlotte kept up the pressure in the second half. Just three minutes in, veteran forward Dustin Swinehart found a loose ball inside the six yard box. Swinehart shuffled a shot under the keeper for his third goal of the season. Raleigh came close to scoring in the 73rd minute. Raleigh midfielder Chase Perfect fired a bullet from the top of the eighteen, but just caught the inside corner of the post, deflecting out. It was Raleigh's closest chance at a goal. Patrick Daka finished off the scoring this evening with a goal in the 79th minute. Veteran midfielder Ben Johnson, set up the play racing down the right flank. His cross found Swinehart who put the ball back in the center for Daka, crashing the net, for the goal. The Eagles outshot Raliegh 23-10 in the match. Eric Pattison earned 8 saves in goal for Charlotte, and Raleigh's goalkeeper Creasmas had 5 saves.

Charlotte's next match is on Tuesday night, June 15th, on the road when the Eagles face the Carolina Dynamo in a 2nd Round Open Cup Match. If the Eagles win on June 15th, then the Eagles will host the A-League Atlanta Silverbacks on June 30th at UNC Charlotte's TransAmerica Field. The Eagles have another doubleheader evening with the Lady Eagles on June 19th at beautiful Waddell Stadium. At 5:30 pm the Lady Eagles will host the Northern Virginia Majestics and the Eagles host Southern Division rival Wilmington Hammerheads at 8:00 pm. June 19th is also Bojangles' Night with live music and post-game concert by Jailbird Paul. Plus, every Saturday night Eagles match is a Harris Teeter VIC Six Dollar Saturday, with $6 admission for those that show their VIC card.
