Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills - Detroit Shock captain Swin Cash will host a fundraising reception for her "Cash for Kids" charitable organization on Thursday, December 21 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the University of Connecticut's Women's center.

The event tips off an evening-long celebration of UConn's women's basketball program. Following the reception, the Huskies will host Colorado State at Gampel Pavilion, and immediately after the game, ten First Team All-Americans, including Cash, along with Hall of Fame head coach Geno Auriemma will be honored in a formal ceremony.

Tickets to Thursday's reception are $50 with proceeds going to Cash For Kids. Interested attendees should RSVP to Lisa Pelofsky at lisa@swincash.com or by calling 816-682-5172.

Swin Cash launched "Cash for Kids" over two years ago to assist youth agencies and schools in the Detroit area and in her hometown of McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The organization's mission is to provide the essential tools for kids to "get in the game educationally and on the court." With a focus on helping children develop their skills both inside and outside of the classroom, "Cash for Kids" provides financial support to the arts while focusing on culture, literacy, athletics and youth development initiatives. Cash is a five-year WNBA veteran, two-time WNBA champion (2003 and 2006) and two-time WNBA All-Star (2003 and 2005). The Shock selected her with the second overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft. As a collegian, Cash helped lead the Huskies to national titles in 2000 and 2002. She also won a gold medal playing for the U.S. women's basketball team at the 2004 Olympic Games.

Besides playing basketball, Cash has put her communication science degree to good use as she recently joined ESPN as an NBA studio analyst.

Joining Cash among the ten First Team All-Americans that will help launch the UConn Women's Basketball "Huskies of Honor" program are five players who earned National Collegiate Player of the Year awards while playing at Connecticut - Diana Taurasi (2003, 2004), Sue Bird (2002), Kara Wolters (1997), Jennifer Rizzotti (1996) and Rebecca Lobo (1995). The other five honorees - all of them All-Americans - are Cash, Svetlana Abrosimova, Shea Ralph, Nykesha Sales and Kerry Bascom.
