Bellingham Bells News Release
The Bellingham Bells pitching staff allowed only two runs on the evening, but the Bells fell 2-1 in the series finale against the Walla Walla Sweets.
Walla Walla scored its two runs in the second inning on a Chris McCready two run homerun. The Sweets, who would not score again, led 2-0 after two innings.
The Bells crossed their only run of the ballgame in the fifth frame. Shane Hanon led off with a single to begin the threat. Gunnar Schubert slapped a double into the left center field gap that plated Hanon and cut the Bells deficit to 2-1 after four and half innings.
Bells pitching was fantastic on the evening, relying on two Pac 12 arms to lead the way. Current UCLA Bruin Jon Olsen (0-1) was a hard luck loser, tossing five frames and allowing only two runs while fanning four Sweets. Future California Golden Bear Jared Horn, in his Bells debut, impressed in his three innings on the hill, striking out two and only one hit.
Bellingham batters stranded eight men on base and were struck out 17 times by Walla Walla pitching.
Despite the loss, which snapped the Bells eight game winning streak, the Bells still took two out of three games on the road against the Sweets.
The Bells will take the field again on Monday night against the Kitsap Bluejackets. First pitch will be thrown at 6:35, with pre-game coverage starting on https://network1sports.com/station/bellinghambells with Tom Prizeman at 6:05. The Bells return home on Tuesday June 21st against the Yakima Valley Pippins at 7:05.To purchase tickets visit http://bellinghambells.com/home/ or call (367) 527-1035.
