DES MOINES, IA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders won their sixth straight game, topping the Iowa Cubs 7-4 on Saturday night at Principal Park. The RailRiders rallied from a three-run deficit, keyed by three home runs and 4.1 shutout frames from the bullpen.

The Cubs took an early 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. Moises Ballesteros singled off the second base bag to drive in Brett Bateman for the first inning edge, and Chas McCromick doubled home Owen Miller in the second, putting the I-Cubs ahead by a pair.

Oswaldo Cabrera's 11th home run of the year cut the deficit to one in the top of the fourth, but the I-Cubs tallied two runs in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded single from former RailRider Ben Cowles.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took the lead in the fifth. Duke Ellis's bases loaded sac fly narrowed the gap to 4-2. J.C. Escarra's three-run homer, 415 feet to straightaway center field off reliever Eduardniel Nunez, gave the RailRiders a 5-4 lead.

Kenedy Corona's RBI double with two down in the sixth extended the advantage to 6-4. George Lombard Jr. extended his 28-game on-base streak and the lead in the seventh with a solo home run to right to close the scoring at 7-4.

Adam Kloffenstein worked 4.2 innings in a no-decision, allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Kervin Castro (3-0) allowed a pair of hits over 1.1 scoreless with a strikeout. Eric Reyzelman followed with 1.1 scoreless, striking out three and walking one. Brad Hanner pitched the final 1.2 innings, striking out two and walking one in his fourth save. Nunez (0-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in relief of starter Grant Kipp.

NEWS AND NOTES

IN THE LEAGUE - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is now in sole possession for first place in the International League, a half game in front of Durham. The RailRiders are 7-3 in their last ten contests and a dozen games above .500, their best record of the season. SWB also has the best run differential in the second half, +56, in the league.

YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS - The last time the RailRiders swept a six-game series was last summer. In the second week of July, SWB took all six contests from Buffalo at PNC Field. They also were victorious in the half a dozen games against Syracuse last June at home as well.

TUESDAY REMATCH - Both teams will start the same pitchers they began with in the series opener. Dom Hamel tossed just two innings allowing a pair of runs on 54 pitches. Hamel is building back up after the All-Star break and being utilized as a reliever. Iowa threw Jace Beck who pitched five scoreless frames. Beck let up just four hits while striking out a pair. The RailRiders went on to win the contest 6-3 by racking up 14 hits and scoring five runs in the final two innings.

LONG BALL LESSON - SWB smacked three home runs in the victory last night. Oswaldo Cabrera got the team on the board in the fourth inning with a solo shot to cut the lead in half. It was J.C. Escarra who really changed the game with a three-run homer in the fifth to put the RailRiders on top. George Lombard Jr. added one of his own in the seventh for his sixth smashed in Triple-A.

BRAD'S BEEN BOMB - Reliever Bradley Hanner lowered his ERA to 2.08 in 37 appearances. He tossed another inning and two thirds scoreless, to garner his fourth save of the season. Hanner has only allowed 20 walks to 57 strikeouts in 47.2 frames. The 27-year-old was originally drafted by Minnesota in the 21st round in 2019 but signed as a free agent with New York on December 16. The Yankees added him to the 40-man on July 18.

IN JULY - The RailRiders produced their best month midway through the season. In July, SWB had one of the best records in Triple-A with a 16-6 record. The pitching staff had the third best ERA at 3.63 and was tied for the second most saves (8). The RailRiders also had the third best average, hitting .293 in 22 games. They hit 34 runs and stole 15 bases.

COMPLETE OPPOSITE SIDES - SWB has the best pitching earned run average in Triple-A. In 104 games, the arms hold a 4.13 ERA allowing 410 earned runs. The RailRiders have let up 98 home runs, second least in the IL. Meanwhile, Iowa has the worst ERA in the International League with a 6.16 in 104 games. The Cubs have let through a league-high 626 earned runs. In addition, the home team has allowed the most homers with 156 let up.
