Swashbucklers to Meet Knoxville Nighthawks for First Time
April 25, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release
LAKE CHARLES LA. "" The Louisiana Swashbucklers will be playing a rare Friday game this week as the Bucs prepare to take on the Knoxville Nighthawks for the first time. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. eastern standard time at the Knoxville Civic Center. Locally the game will be broadcast on 1310 AM Sports Radio KEZM in Sulphur with John Goodman calling the play-by-play. In Lake Charles the game will start at 6 p.m. with pre-game to commence around 5:50 p.m. The broadcast is also accessible on the Internet at www.kezmonline.com.
Louisiana is coming off its second win of the season as the team narrowly got by the Richmond Raiders 47-45. Knoxville was defeated by the Alabama Hammers 62-25. The Bucs are 2-3 on the year while the Nighthawks are still looking for their first win of the year. This week in the PIFL Louisiana wide receiver Jordan Rideaux was named Offensive Player of the Week. In last Saturday's game against Richmond he pulled in 10 catches of which were for touchdowns. He accumulated 99 yards for his efforts. Rideaux got one score rushing. He was able to put points on the board to help out an offense that did not have 100 yards of total offense when the first half was completed.
Swashbucklers quarterback Freddie Harrison is expected to be under center when the team takes to the field. Against Richmond last Saturday regular starter Alvin Bartie suffered a leg injury and will be out from four to six weeks. He was starting in his first game after missing several weeks of action because of a previous injury. Knoxville will have two new players on the gridiron as quarterback Willie Copeland from Valdosta State and defensive back Tony Norman of Western New Mexico State. Nighthawks head coach Chris MacKeown is hoping these new additions to the team will add a spark to the offense.
Swashbucklers head coach Darnell Lee will be expecting the offense to generate some points to build upon the victory last week. Harrison will have running back Kendrick Perry to handle rushing duties while dependable receivers Rideaux, Sammy Knight, Immanuel Friddle and Marcus Wilridge will be counted on to get past the Nighthawks secondary and find the end zone.
Following this game the Swashbucklers will be on the road again when they travel to Richmond to take on the Raiders for the second time this season on Saturday, May 5th.
