Swashbucklers to Meet Hammerheads in Playoffs

LAKE CHARLES LA. - Despite a two-game losing streak, the Louisiana Swashbucklers are getting ready for what will be a major showdown in the Southern Indoor Football League Western Conference when the Corpus Christi Hammerheads come to the Smuggler ¬â¢s Den for a first round playoff game. It will be the third meeting between the two teams in the 2011 season. During the regular season Louisiana won the first game on May 28th 69-47 while Corpus Christi took the second one 62-51 on June 5th.
The Swashbucklers finished the regular season at 8-4 and come into the postseason as the second seed in the conference. The Hammerheads were 7-5 and got the third seed. Corpus Christi won their regular season finale as they defeated the Abilene Ruff Riders 79-30. They go into the playoffs on a two-game winning streak. Louisiana lost to the Houston Stallions 40-38 last Saturday in the Lake Charles Civic Center to end the regular season.
In other SIFL playoff action, the Stallions were the only undefeated team in the league and as the first seed in the Western Conference they will take on fourth seeded Rio Grande Valley. In the Eastern Conference, it will be first seeded Columbus taking on the Trenton Steel. Trenton has the fourth seed while the Albany Panthers with the second seed will tackle the third seeded Erie Explosion.
All SIFL semifinal conference games will take place on Saturday, June 18th with the exception of Rio Grande and Houston, who will square off next Monday night.
The Swashbucklers and Hammerheads will square off at 7 p.m. in the Smuggler ¬â¢s Den at the Lake Charles Civic Center. This promises to be an exciting hard hitting playoff game between two longtime rivals. Tickets are available at the Civic Center ticket office.
