Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release
LAKE CHARLES LA. - In what will be an important game for the Louisiana Swashbucklers the Bucs (7-2) will take on the Abilene Ruff Riders (4-5) Saturday, May 21st. The game will be the last of a lengthy road trip that has kept the team from Lake Charles for over a month. The Purple-And-Black gang will return to the Smuggler ¬â¢s Den in the Lake Charles Civic Center for a matchup against the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. It will also be the annual Freedom Fighters salute.
Louisiana is coming off a hard fought game last Sunday against the Houston Stallions at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. Though the lead changed a few times during the game the Swashbucklers came out on the losing end by a score of 64-57. Houston remains undefeated in the Southern Indoor Football League. However, the Bucs have claimed the SIFL Gulf Coast Division championship by virtue of its season record. The Stallions won the SIFL Southwest Division title. However, the Bucs are still in the hunt for a high seed in the league postseason as the regular season enters its final month.
Against the Stallions the Swashbucklers were close to them statistically. On the ground Louisiana had 24 net yards to Houston ¬â¢s 29. Both teams averaged 2.4 yards a carry. The Bucs had 212 passing yards while the Stallions had 312. Louisiana ¬â¢s offense had 24 completed passes out of 37 attempts with no interceptions. Houston had 26 out of 37 with two picks.
The Ruff Riders were defeated by the Rio Grande Valley Magic in their last game 48-24. Abilene was held scoreless by the Magic in the fourth quarter.
Louisiana and Abilene will be facing each other for the second time this season. In the first game played between the two teams in Lake Charles on April 16th the Swashbucklers prevailed with a score of 70-38. At present the Bucs lead the SIFL 69.5 rushing yards per game and running back Kendrick Perry is on top of the league with 47.5 rushing yards a game. Abilene is looking for a victory as well since the Ruff Riders are still in contention for one of the slots that are still available in the playoffs.
Head coach for the Bucs is Darnell Lee and assistant coach/defensive coordinator is Dwight Hudler. Shon King is head coach for the Ruff Riders.
