Swashbucklers Defeat Ruff Riders 64-50

LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers returned to form in Abilene, Texas, Saturday night as the team defeated the Abilene Ruff Riders 64-50. In doing so the Bucs, now 8-2 on the season, are back in the hunt for a high seed in the Southern Indoor Football Season playoffs. Abilene falls to 4-6 but that team is also looking for spot in the league postseason. The Purple-and-Black gang won the SIFL Gulf Coast Division title for 2011.

Bucs quarterback Ben McLaughlin had a stellar game in throwing for a total of 259 yards and seven touchdowns. McLaughlin was able to jump start the offense considering the Ruff Riders had a lead of 30-20 in the middle of the second quarter. Louisiana scored 17 unanswered points in the last four minutes of the quarter prior to halftime.

After the Swashbucklers had achieved a lead of 37-30, McLaughlin tossed three more passes that led to scores in the third quarter. Kendrick Perry, Mike Maciejewski and Taurean Rhetta each caught a pass winding up in the end zone. Maciejewski had 10 receptions for a total of 84 yards while Marcus Wilridge caught nine for 99 yards. For Abilene, quarterback Kirt Griffin had a total of 231 yards passing with four touchdowns to his credit.

For the season to date, McLaughlin has a tally of 1,586 yards passing with 38 touchdowns. He has completed 132 passes out of 203 attempts with only five interceptions.

The Swashbucklers will return home to the Smuggler ‚¬â„¢s Den after a one month road trip on Saturday, May 28th, to take on the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. This will renew a rivalry when the Bucs and Hammerheads were affiliated with another league. This is the first season Corpus Christi has been a part of the SIFL. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Lake Charles Civic Center.
