Swashbucklers Defeat Mobile Bay Press Release

Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release

LAKE CHARLES LA. - In a game filled with almost as many penalties as there were passes the Louisiana Swashbucklers prevailed over the Mobile Bay Tarpons 73-32 to go 3-1 on the season. The Tarpons drop to 2-2. The Swashbucklers remain undefeated at home in the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Game action commenced with an uno by Bucs kicker Blake Bercegay. The first touchdown for the home team came on 45 yard touchdown bomb from quarterback Ben McLaughlin to Marcus Wildridge. A few minutes later Mobile Bay answered with a score of their own from QB Todd Wilson to wide receiver Roderick Robinson. Wilridge caught another pass in the end zone later in the first but Wilson returned the favor by throwing a lateral to wideout James Williams to bring the score to 15-12. The PAT was blocked. It seemed Mobile Bay had gained the momentum after a McLaughlin pass was intercepted by Terrell Sutton. Adding to injury the Bucs were penalized for roughing the passer. The first quarter ended 22-20 Bucs.

The remainder of the first half was when the Swashbucklers were able to start putting some distance between themselves and the Tarpons. Bucs defensive back Brandon Thomas intercepted a pass from Wilson which set up another scoring pass from McLaughlin to Wilson on a 45 yard bomb. Along with Wilridge, Bucs receivers Sammy Knight and Taurean Rhetta teamed up to increase the margin in scoring. Mike Maciejewski caught a midfield pass from McLaughlin and was tackled down at the Tarpons' 19 yard line. On the next play Knight comes down with the ball in the end zone. The first half ended with a commanding lead of 49-26 for the Swashbucklers.

Two minutes into the second half the Bucs continued where they left off at when Wilridge took down the ball on a pass at the Tarpons' two yard line. On the next play from scrimmage Louisiana's running back Kendrick Perry runs it in. After a successful PAT, Bercegay kicked another uno bringing the score to 57-26. Following that score Tarpons defensive back Etric Pruitt intercepted a McLaughlin pass. What then came next was a Mobile Bay drive in which they maintained possession for virtually the remainder of the third quarter but continuous penalties against the Tarpons kept pushing the back. Mobile Bay got a break when Louisiana was penalized for pass interference but despite the time and effort the Tarpons were unable to punch the ball into the end zone.

The final period saw Rhetta reach paydirt for two more scores for the Swashbucklers and got a safety when Mobile Bay attempted a field goal from their own end zone. One last play from Wilson to Matthews brought the game to an end and to the final score.

The Swashbucklers will be back in action next Saturday at the Lake Charles Civic Center when they host the Abilene Ruff Riders.
