Swashbucklers beat Turfcats 59-38 in SIFL Championship Game

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The second place Austin Turfcats (10-3) lost to the Louisiana Swashbucklers 59-38 (12-1) in the inaugural Southern Indoor Football League President's Cup championship game. The Turfcats got down early and penalties and turnovers kept them down.

The Turfcats were down in the first half 28-3 but closed the gap a little to 28-17 at halftime. The Swashbucklers came out on fire in the second half. The Turfcats scored three touchdowns in the second half but it wasn't enough.

Swashbucklers quarterback Alvin Bartie finished with two touchdowns rushing and he threw for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Swashbucklers other quarterback Freddie Harris also threw for two touchdowns while wide receiver Raymond Harris caught three touchdown passes and had 1229 yards receiving.

Turfcats quarterback Gary Cooper threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns. Darrick Wallace had 55 yards receiving for three touchdowns and Reggie Smith had 57 yards receiving ad one touchdown.
