SwampDogs Snag Griffin Standout

February 2, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The SwampDogs' All-Star Summer of Fun is shaping up to be another memorable summer.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are proud to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Zack Martinelli from Seton Hill University, the 21st-ranked team in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason poll.

Martinelli, a junior from Irwin, Pa., had an incredible season for the Griffins in 2015, posting a perfect 7-0 record and a team-leading 1.90 ERA. Opponents hit just a measly .203 against him in 52 innings pitched. The performance earned Martinelli a nod on the 2016 NCBWA Preseason Atlantic Region First-Team.

"We're incredibly excited for Zack to be a huge part of our pitching staff this summer," said SwampDogs assistant general manager Joe Vasile. "Coming from a great program in a very competitive conference, he has a winning pedigree and should help lead us to a Petitt Cup Championship this summer."

The Seton Hill University Griffins are coached by Marc Marrizaldi, in his 13th season. Marrizaldi is the only coach in the history of the program, and has compiled over 420 wins and a .652 winning percentage. The Griffins finished sixth in the nation last season. Seton Hill University is located in Greensburg, Pa. and the school competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs home opener for the 2016 season is Wednesday, June 1st. The season will see the SwampDogs hosting the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game and Fan Fest on July 10th and 11th. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 910-426-5900, or by visiting www.goswampdogs.com/tickets.
