Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

LEXINGTON, S.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs were able to take advantage of six errors committed by the Lexington County Blowfish to come away with a 12-7 victory Saturday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Trey Hayes (Sr./Presbyterian) struggled in the early going, allowing five runs to the Blowfish in one inning plus three batters of work before being removed in favor of Ross Gardner (Fr./East Carolina).

The SwampDogs had to chip away to climb their way back into the game, capitalizing on a plethora of Blowfish errors - scoring three in the third and two in the fifth and six innings to ultimately take a 7-6 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Gardner, in his fifth inning of long relief surrendered a run to bring the game to a 7-7 tie.

In the top of the seventh inning, Alex Liquori (Jr./Kennesaw State) hit a one out double, then stole third. He came in to score on a wild pitch by Avery Greer later in the inning. Meanwhile Carson Waln (Soph./Wofford) was hit by a pitch and Sky Overton placed a bunt single perfectly down the third base line to put runners on the corners.

Mitch Roman (Jr./Wright State) hit a ball down the right field line that Connor Owings allowed to pop in and out of his mitt to score both Waln and Overton. A double by Jimmy Faul (Jr./Louisville) on the very next pitch brought Roman home to push the lead to 11-7.

Liquori was a catalyst on offense, finishing with a season-high four hits, including two doubles and four runs scored.

Gardner got the win for the SwampDogs, his third on the season against no losses. The SwampDogs (15-21) return home Saturday for the 9th annual StriKing Out Cancer Night presented by the Cape Fear Valley Health System. For tickets call 910-426-5900.
