FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs dropped a heartbreaker to the Lexington County Blowfish 8-6 in 13 innings at J.P. Riddle Stadium Monday night.
Trailing at points by scores of 5-1 and 6-3, the SwampDogs clawed back to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Trevor Bradley of the Blowfish hit two batters in a row with the bases loaded.
With the game tied at six, the game turned into a chess match between the head coaches Zach Brown of the SwampDogs and Jonathan Johnson of the Blowfish. The game remained tied at six until the top of the 13th inning, when the 'Fish finally broke through against Zach McKay (Soph./The Citadel) for two runs.
Tyler Kimbrell struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning to seal the victory for the Blowfish.
Offensively, Ki-Jana Madden (Fr./Spartanburg Methodist), Alex Liquori (Jr./Kennesaw State) and Austin Upshaw (Fr./Kennesaw State) each had three-hit games.
The SwampDogs (13-20) continue their home stand on Tuesday on Superhero and Villain Night as the SwampDogs host the Wilmington Sharks at 7:05 pm. For tickets call 910-426-5900.
