Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs lost the third and final game of the 2012 Petitt Cup on Tuesday night, falling 8-3 to the Columbia Blowfish at home. Fayetteville won Game 1 in Columbia on Sunday night, but the Blowfish won two straight at "The Swamp" to earn their first ever league title.

Columbia scored seven runs in the fourth inning, as seven of their first nine hitters came across to establish the lead. After adding one more in the fifth, the Dogs faced an eight-run deficit late in the game.

The Dogs never gave up, however, as they rallied for three runs in the seventh to cut into the lead. Sal Giardina (Lynn) and Blake Beemer (Ball State) walked to begin the inning, and Jacob Golliday (Francis Marion) singled to load the bases. Andrew Parker drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch to plate Giardina, and both John Howell (Binghamton) and Joe Ciamacco (Ohio State) recorded sacrifice flies.

Closer Tyler Brunnemann (Hardin-Simmons) took over in the fourth inning and finished the game, recording 5.2 innings on the hill in relief.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs thank the fans for another terrific season, and remind everyone to come out to "The Swamp" next year for more, exciting, SwampDogs baseball!
