Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs are pleased to announce the addition of a pair of outfielders for the 2012 season. Ball State's Blake Beemer and Cincinnati's Jake Proctor will both be calling "The Swamp" home this summer.
Beemer is in the midst of his junior season with the Cardinals, where he has earned considerable playing time each year since his freshman campaign. He has already tallied 21 hits to begin 2012, and is tied for the team lead with 23 starts. The 6-0, 190-pounder finished third on Ball State's club in 2010 as a freshman with a .328 batting average. He has seen action in the outfield and at first base in his college career.
Proctor has also earned a letter each year he's donned a Bearcats uniform. He recorded a stand-out sophomore season in 2011, where he led the team in runs scored, home runs, runs-batted-in, and stolen bases. He hit .342 in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League to follow that campaign, and was rewarded by being named a first-team, all-league outfielder. The 6-2, 221-pound slugger is currently hitting .301 with 11 extra-base hits to start 2012.
"We are excited to have these two tremendous student-athletes with us for the summer. They are both team leaders and talented players," said SwampDogs head coach Darrell Handelsman. "Blake will provide a quality left handed bat and can play anywhere in the OF or first base, while Jake has that enticing combination of speed and power that can be very explosive. We expect them both to play a big role in our success this summer."
