
SwampDogs 2016 Schedule Announced

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League has announced its 56-game schedule for the 2016 season, with the Fayetteville SwampDogs sporting 31 home games. The season will begin on Tuesday, May 31st and end on Monday, August 8th, with playoffs to follow.
The SwampDogs will begin the home portion of their 16th season with a Wednesday evening matchup against the Wilmington Sharks on June 1st. That is the first of seven scheduled contests between two of the most heated rivals in the Coastal Plain League.
The final game of the 2016 season will be at "The Swamp" on August 8th against the newest CPL club, Savannah. The Savannah team has not announced its nickname yet. The SwampDogs match up with the new opponent three times, twice at home and once on the road.
"As we start our 16th season, we are pleased to deliver 31 home games for our fans to enjoy," said SwampDogs general manager Jeremy Aagard. "That's 31 games of great family affordable entertainment and great baseball."
The CPL Petitt Cup playoffs have undergone a facelift this year, changing from a three-game series format to a format where the Divisional Series and Divisional Championship will be one-game long, with the Championship Series remaining a three-game series.
The 2016 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game and Fan Fest will take place on Sunday, July 10th and Monday, July 11th. The location of the All-Star Game and Fan Fest will be announced soon.
Once again, the Coastal Plain League will be comprised of two divisions, the East and the West, with eight teams in each. The East will consist of the Edenton Steamers, the SwampDogs, The Holly Springs Salamanders, the Morehead City Marlins, the Peninsula Pilots, the Petersburg Generals, the Wilmington Sharks, and the Wilson Tobs. The West will consist of the Asheboro Copperheads, the Florence RedWolves, the Forest City Owls, the Gastonia Grizzlies, the High Point-Thomasville HiToms, the Lexington County Blowfish, the Martinsville Mustangs and Savannah. The top four teams in each division qualify for the Petitt Cup Playoffs.
The fun and excitement fans have come to associate with SwampDogs baseball will be kicked up yet another notch in 2016 with new and innovative experiences for fans in the works. The SwampDogs are already hard at work preparing new theme nights, more giveaway items and fantastic on-field promotions.
Fans can look forward to the return of some of the more popular theme nights such as the 10th annual StriKing Out Cancer Night and Pink Jersey Auction which will benefit the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center, as well as the Honoring America Fireworks Tribute on Sunday, July 3rd when the SwampDogs host the Wilson Tobs.
