Susan G. Komen for the Cure Partnership Announced

Somerset, N.J. (Wednesday, August 4, 2010) - Sky Blue FC of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) formally announced today that it has partnered with the Central and South Jersey Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure chapter, as part of PUMA's league-wide Project Pink initiative. When Sky Blue FC hosts the Washington Freedom at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway on Wednesday, August 11th, the team will be wearing and auctioning off specialty-made pink PUMA jerseys, and the game will also be played with a pink PUMA ball in an effort to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.

"It is important that Sky Blue FC and Women's Professional Soccer align ourselves with causes that touch our community," Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone commented. "Fighting breast cancer is arguably the closest and most important of these causes. We are proud to acknowledge our association with Project Pink, and to partner with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization."

A silent auction for the pink jerseys will be held from the time the gates open on August 11th at 5:30 p.m. until the 70th minute of the game. Anyone interested in participating must be present at the game, with winners being announced prior to the final whistle.

"We are so grateful to the Sky Blue FC for supporting Komen," stated Nancy K. Healey, Executive Director of the Central and South Jersey Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "Women's soccer and Susan G. Komen for the Cure are a perfect fit. We hope to reach many women and young girls with the message of early breast cancer detection."

In addition to producing the pink jerseys and ball, PUMA is currently hosting a forum at www.wps.pumafootball.com/projectpink for participants to openly discuss its Project Pink initiative. On the site, supporters can nominate breast cancer charities with nonprofit status to be entered into a vote to receive a donation from PUMA. The nomination process will run from August 7th until September 13th, and the voting will conclude in late October.

"Giving back is an integral part of our brand DNA at PUMA which comes to life through our Project Pink program with Women's Professional Soccer," explained Tara McRae, Senior Director of Marketing for PUMA North America. "Project Pink has resonated with the players, the fans and our company. There's a lot of personal passion driving this program forward, and we're looking forward to finally taking it public and getting consumers involved."

In an effort to drive additional awareness to the cause through the use of Twitter, PUMA encourages users of the social media site to mention the hash tag #projectpink when speaking about the Project Pink initiative. For every tweet that mentions #projectpink from now until October 18th, PUMA will donate an additional $1 to the Project Pink cause, up to a maximum of $25,000. Every Twitter user can raise $1 every single day that the #projectpink hash tag is mentioned.

Sky Blue FC is also an active participant in the Donate Your Gear program to benefit the Schools of Niger, Africa, and the team invites fans to join them in the worthy cause by donating new or gently used items at any of its remaining home games. Among the items which fans are encouraged to bring include soccer clothing, cleats, balls, equipment, coaches' gear and water bottles. Drop boxes will be positioned at the entrance to Yurcak Field for those who wish to contribute.
