Mississippi Surge News Release

The Mississippi Surge continued its mastery over the in-state rival Mississippi RiverKings with a 3-1 win Friday night in Southaven. The win moves the Surge to 3-0-0 in the battle for Mississippi bragging rights, and is also the team's sixth win the last seven games.

Tommy Lange, who had just returned to the Surge after being loaned to Tulsa of the Central Hockey League, took little time to add to his team leading scoring total. He scored just 2:18 into the first period picking up his team leading sixth goal and 13th point of the season. Kyle Vandermale gave the Surge a 2-0 lead, at 6:07. The Surge first period onslaught continued when Adam Stuart scored an unassisted power play goal at 8:41. That goal chased RiverKings starting goaltender Matthew Krahn, who was replaced by David Wilson.

The only shot to elude RiverKing goaltender Kiefer Smiley came off the stick of Jeremy Dawes on a RiverKing power play seven and a half minutes into the second period. Smiley was playing in his first game since November 10th, when he received a five game suspension for a postgame altercation. David Wilson, in relief of Krahn in the RiverKing net, stopped all 35 shots he faced. Smiley wound up with 36 saves in the game.

The Surge, in the midst of a six game road trip plays Saturday night at Louisiana at 7:05. The next home game for the Surge will be Friday December 14th against the Fayetteville FireAntz.
