Mississippi Surge News Release

Sandwich Time: The Mississippi Surge has one home game sandwiched between two road games this week. The Surge will travel to Columbus for a 6:30 p.m. (Central time) game on Friday; return home to face Louisiana Saturday at 7:05 p.m.; then will head to Louisiana for a 3:05 p.m. game Sunday.

Bear Facts: The Surge beat the Fayetteville FireAntz, Saturday night, 5-3 in the annual Teddy Bear toss game. When Payden Benning scored early in the second period, it brought a rainstorm of approximately 1,600 teddy bears onto the ice. The bears will be donated to area hospitals, police and fire departments, and other agencies to help children in times of stress. The win earned the Surge a split of its two game series with first place Fayetteville, as Friday night, the Surge dropped a 3-2 decision.

Second Look: The Surge took the lead in Saturday's game with a four goal second period outburst. The Surge has scored 26 goals in the second period this season, tied for the most in the Southern Professional Hockey League (with Fayetteville). On November 17th, the Surge scored five times in the second period against Huntsville. That's the most goals by any team in the SPHL in a second period this season.

Gator Hunting: The two games the Surge will play this week against Louisiana will be the fourth and fifth between the teams. With one fourth of its schedule played against Louisiana, that is the most frequent the Surge has played any opponent this season.
