March 17, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC (March 16, 2011) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Bill Zaniboni of the Mississippi Surge is the SBK Player of the Week for March 7-13.
The Plymouth, MA native recorded a pair of wins, posting a 1.92 goals against average and a save percentage of .941 as the Surge maintained their hold on first place in the standings.
On Friday, Zaniboni stopped 24 of 27 shots as Mississippi defeated Columbus 5-3 in the first game of a home-and-home series. The Surge came back on Saturday with a 2-1 shootout win over the Cottonmouths as Zaniboni made 40 saves, including 16 in the third period alone.
The 2009-10 Goaltender of the Year, Zaniboni led the SPHL last season with four shutouts, a 2.48 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage, while his 23 wins was tied for the league-lead with Fayetteville's Guy St. Vincent. In addition, his 2.48 goals against average is tied for second-best in league history (Chad Collins, 2004-05), just shy of the record of 2.45 set by Jacksonville's Tim Haun during the 2007-08 season.
