March 17, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Augusta RiverHawks' Captain Matt Auffrey padded his MVP credentials a little more Thursday night in Fayetteville, NC when he scored the winning goal with 2:23 remaining in overtime to give his team a 4-3 victory over the desperate FireAntz.

Auffrey's winner secured the seventh straight win for the RiverHawks, the second longest winning streak in the SPHL this season. The RiverHawks own the longest as well, an eight-game run that ended just three games before this streak began.

RiverHawks' goaltender Jon Olthuis continued his strong play since being returned from a stint in the Central Hockey League, stopping 27 shots for his 17th win of the season. Olthuis has been stellar for the RiverHawks since Christmas winning 13 of 15 games during that span.

Jason Price had a particularly strong game as the RiverHawks' defenseman scored a goal and added an assist on Auffrey's game winning goal. Egor Mironov and Travis Dunstall also recorded goals for the RiverHawks. Jeffery Burrows, Anthony Perdicaro, and Nathaniel Brooks each scored for the FireAntz in the losing cause.

The RiverHawks sit in second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League, just four points back of first-place Mississippi Surge pending the outcome of their game late Thursday night against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The RiverHawks have clinched a position in the 2011 SPHL Playoffs, and are playing for home-ice advantage.
