Mississippi Surge News Release
Biloxi, MS - After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, and an intense comeback bid in the third period, the Mississippi Surge fell short losing 4-3 against the Peoria Rivermen.
Tom Craig continued his hot streak scoring the first goal of the game (Justin MacDonald, Tyler Turcotte) his second goal in the last three games. Craig's goal was only power play goal for the Surge who went 1-4 with a man advantage. Andrew Harrison scored the second Surge goal of the game with a little help from Evan Zych and Justin MacDonald who finished the night with two assists. Harrison's goal marked his first with the Surge since joining the team this season.
Former Surge Defenseman Adam Feniak put the Rivermen on the scoreboard late in the first (Jarrett Rush, Matt Viola), later scoring a power play goal that prove to be the game winner. Alexandre Mentink and Matt Viola also had goals for the Rivermen. In a near even match of shots on goal, Peoria capitalized on power play opportunities, scoring two goals with a man advantage.
In an exciting third period, Surge leading scorer, Kyle Kudroch, ended a five goal drought netting the Surge's third puck. With Dugas off the ice in favor of an extra attacker, the Surge nearly slipped a game tying shot beyond Peoria's net minder, Kyle Rank, but fell short.
The Surge will face Columbus next friday, welcoming the newest member of the Cottonmouths, Shannon Szabados, the SPHL's first female goaltender, before wrapping up the regular season against the RiverKings on March 22nd.
