Surge Announce 09-10 Regular Season Schedule

BILOXI, MS -- The Mississippi Surge on Wednesday announced their fifty six game schedule for the 2009-10 Southern Professional Hockey League Regular Season.
Mississippi will play it's first home game on Saturday, October 24th against the Louisiana IceGators. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. The night prior, Friday October 23rd, the team will open its' first season on the ice as a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League on the road in Lafayette, LA.
The Interstate 10 rival Pensacola Ice Flyers will make their first trip to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Thursday, October 29th.
Other highlights on the schedule include six home games and six road games against the Pensacola Ice Flyers as well as six home and seven road games against the Louisiana IceGators. The team will play a total of twenty eight home games with ten on Saturday, nine on Friday, six Thursday night games and three Sundays. Holiday home games will also be played on New Year's day and on Saturday, December 26th.
The longest string of road games in the 2009-10 season is a five game stretch that begins on Thanksgiving day as the team travels to Huntsville and concludes with a trip to Louisiana on December 5th.
Twice during the season the Surge will play four straight home games. The first beginning on November 12th against the Fayetteville FireAntz and concluding on November 19th against the Knoxville Ice Bears. The next four-game home stand commences on January 30th against the Columbus Cottonmouths and wraps up on Sunday, February 7th against the Knoxville Ice Bears.
The regular season schedule will conclude with two home games against the IceGators on Friday, March 26th and Saturday, March 27th.
Breaking down the schedule by opponent, Mississippi will play the Columbus Cottonmouths, Fayetteville FireAntz and Knoxville IceBears eight times, will take on the Huntsville Havoc seven times, the Louisiana IceGators thirteen times and will face the Pensacola Ice Flyers a total of twelve times.
Surge President, Bill Yates, says that the team has a very strong schedule, "We've worked closely with Coliseum management to put together what we feel is an extremely fan-friendly home schedule." He adds, "As far as our travel schedule is concerned we expect to spend very little time on the bus which should make for healthier players."
